JOB TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Soil Science
JOB PURPOSE:
The University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor in Soil Science on a nine-month appointment. The tenure-track hire will be housed in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management (ESM) within the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources. We seek a colleague with expertise in pedology (the study of the formation, morphology, classification and distribution of soils) to conduct research, teach in the soil science curriculum and perform University, State and professional service. Expertise in Pedology will add to existing UW strengths in agriculture, computing, ecology, geology, geospatial analysis, hydrology, rangeland ecology and management, and restoration of disturbed lands
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position responsibilities will be split between teaching, research and service. The successful candidate is expected to: develop an externally funded nationally recognized research program focused on pedology, publish peer-reviewed articles, mentor graduate students and perform service activities for the University, State, and the faculty's professional discipline. Potential research areas include but are not limited to: (1) patterns in soil morphology across environmental gradients; (2) the role of soil properties in ecosystem processes and functions; (3) impacts of resource extraction, land use and landscape change, wildfire or drought on soils; (4) the use of novel approaches, such as Artificial Intelligence, to analyze soil data with the goal of solving applied problems. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Introduction to Soil Science (undergraduate) and Genesis, Morphology, and Classification of Soils (undergraduate/graduate) as well as another course in their area of expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. at the time of hire in Soil Science or related field
- Evidence of research productivity in the form of peer-reviewed journal publications

Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Evidence of success at obtaining grant funding
- Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research
- Postdoctoral experience
- Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
