Full-Time Teaching Faculty: Biology

Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered individual to teach at the undergraduate and possibly graduate level. Primary responsibilities will include courses that serve undergraduate biology majors and students in other majors. This is a full-time, non tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.

We will consider applicants from a broad range of biological disciplines. Applicants who can teach advanced undergraduate and/or graduate courses for the master's program in Molecular Cell Biology are highly desirable. In addition to teaching, the position involves advising students and engaging in service activities and committees that strengthen the program, department, college, and university community. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 23 full-time faculty members whose academic specialties span disciplines from molecular genetics through ecology. The Department has a strong sense of community, and the faculty are highly collaborative in both teaching and research. In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 32 undergraduate minors, an MS in Molecular and Cell Biology, and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Data Science/MS or MA in Communications, 3+1 BS in Data Science/MBA, 3+1 BS in Economics/MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism or MBA, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA or MA in Communications, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, and Math.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the teaching and ongoing development of lecture and laboratory components of the introductory biology courses for natural science, health science or nursing programs, with the possibility of teaching advanced and/or graduate courses as needed
  • Hold regular office hours for students
  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally
  • Engage in service activities, such as participating in department, college and university meetings, and engaging in committee work, to help advance the mission and values of the program, department, college, and university
  • Support Quinnipiac University’s commitment to an inclusive environment

Education Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology (or closely related field) is required at the time of appointment

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate-level lectures and laboratories
  • Evidence of commitment to participating in a collaborative teaching environment
  • Evidence of commitment to inclusive teaching and community

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and improving introductory biology courses
  • Ability to contribute to advanced biology courses to support our undergraduate major and our master’s program in molecular and cell biology
