The Instructor of Chemistry reports to the Chair of Chemistry and is responsible for providing instruction in chemistry and computational chemistry. General duties include: develop and communicate to students clear course objectives and goals; plan and develop an instructional program that helps students assimilate specific course content and skills; willingness to participate in residential school programs including social, recreational, and advisory responsibilities at times other than usual school hours; hold after school tutorial sessions; regularly monitor and evaluate students' progress, providing them with resources and feedback on their performance; structure and manage an environment conducive to learning; model for students responsibility to self and others; follow the School's Mission, policies, and procedures; teach a January-Term course; attend departmental, faculty, and staff meetings; serve on departmental, faculty, and school-based standing committees; write recommendations for up to 15 students each year, as requested; participate in professional development and personal intellectual growth activities. Participate in one or more of the following activities: serve as academic advisor, sponsor a club, competition, or event, serve as an officer of Faculty Senate, or provide administrative support such as managing Teaching Assistants; provide information, service, and expertise to other schools and organizations; assist students on special projects, independent and individual study, and seminar-based studies; participate in the Admissions process by recruiting, selecting, and advising prospective students; participate in the NCSSM alumni activities; provide assistance for school-sponsored programs and extracurricular activities.

Specific Duties: Duties include teaching Chemistry and elective courses with special emphasis on computational science, possibly including introductory (survey) courses, computational chemistry, and computational chemistry research; teaching online courses with a synchronous evening component. Teaching responsibilities, as determined by the Chair, will be a mix of online and residential classes, based on yearly student demand.
