Founded in 1980, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is a state-supported residential and online high school for students who have demonstrated exceptional talent or interest in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. Since the school's inception, the humanities and fine arts have been an integral part of an NCSSM education and have played a key role in helping the institution fulfill its mission to cultivate a new generation of informed, empathetic, engaged, and ethical citizens and leaders.

Hiring Salary Range: $71,665 - $76,768
Description of Duties:
This position is not considered mandatory, and has a flexible/hybrid remote option, and the candidate does not have responsibility for driving for school-related business.
The primary purpose of this position is to:
- Ensure the seamless operation and administration of critical school-wide applications, including but not limited to Google Workspace, the learning management system (LMS), and the student information system (SIS).
- Provide expert IT training, consultation, and support to all school constituents, from students to external partners.
- Contribute to the implementation and support of AV infrastructure and hardware systems, particularly for the Morganton campus.
- Lead and participate in project management initiatives, committee work, and cross-divisional collaboration within ITS.
Manage systems and provide operational support, including systems administration and troubleshooting of software, hardware, and other issues, for school-wide applications, spanning both physical campuses.
- Including but not limited to:
- SIS (Blackbaud)
- LMS (Canvas)
- Microsoft (O365, Active Directory)
- VoIP application (Dialpad)
- Accessibility applications
- Zoom
- Project Management Platforms (Asana)
- Atlassian applications (Jira and Confluence)
- Core responsibilities for these applications include maintenance, updates, patching, and end-user support.
- This role also assists with the implementation and support of in-room AV infrastructure and hardware systems, providing key on-site support for the Morganton campus.
Training and user support:
- Assess, plan, and implement inclusive, differentiated IT training and support. This includes one-to-one and group training to all constituents.
- In partnership with network security specialists on team, lead security training exercises, including recurring training modules, phishing drills, and other training opportunities.
- While primarily a Tier 2 and 3 level of escalated support for systems, it must be able to provide all tiers of support, Tiers 1 through 3, for all constituents.
- Write and maintain documentation for the larger community, and carefully document internal processes and procedures.
- Manage the IT onboarding of new NCSSM-Morganton employees. Oversee account management processes for that campus.
Project management, committee work, and other IT division support and collaboration:
- Play a leading role in identifying trends and solutions, making proactive suggestions for modifications or new applications to solve existing and future problems. Subsequently lead implementation of solutions, optimizing for organizational success.
- Collaborate closely across the ITS team, and cross-train to be able to provide effective coverage as needed.
- Engage with partners across all divisions of the institution to proactively identify and resolve pain points. Participate in committee and project work for institutions as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive Enterprise & Educational Technology Administration: Demonstrated expertise in administering major enterprise platforms (Google Workspace, Microsoft O365) combined with specific proficiency in educational technologies, particularly Student Information Systems (such as Blackbaud) and Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas).
- Unified Communications & Infrastructure Support: Proven experience supporting a diverse ecosystem of collaboration and hardware tools, including Zoom, the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), VoIP solutions, and Audio/Visual (AV) infrastructure.
- Advanced Communication & User Training: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the specific ability to translate complex technical information into accessible documentation and effective training sessions for users of varying technical proficiency.
- Proactive Innovation & Strategic Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking skills focused on moving beyond reactive troubleshooting to develop preventative solutions, anticipate future technological requirements, and implement innovative workflows.
- Cross-Campus Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a distributed IT environment, collaborating with staff across multiple campuses to resolve complex technical issues and ensure consistent service delivery.
